What to do if you’re running out of storage space on your phone.
November 24, 2020
Given the number of high-resolution photos and videos we tend to take on a regular basis—not to mention the numerous apps we download to help us manage our daily lives, entertain us, or keep track of information—it’s not surprising that many people experience a memory shortage on their phones at one time or another. If buying a new phone with greater storage capabilities isn’t economically feasible for you, there are a few things you can do to free up space.
Here are a few suggestions:
– Delete. Smartphones generally come with a number of preloaded apps that you may or may not use. There are also times when you download an app, such as a game, that you grow tired after some time. Those apps are eating up space on your phone’s memory. If you haven’t used an app since you purchased your phone and you don’t see using it, delete it. You’ll be surprised how much memory that will free up. If you need it again in the future, you can always go to the app store to reinstall it.
– Media. Another thing you can do for extra space on your phone is to go through your photos and videos. Get rid of the pictures that are blurry and delete duplicates that are similar in nature. Unless there is something uniquely wonderful about a photo, clearing it from your phone will free up a good amount of space. Also, you don’t always need to shoot the highest resolution photos and videos. Reducing the file resolution while taking photos can help you from eating up a lot of storage space.
– External Storage. If you have an iPhone, you can buy storage space on the iCloud for about 99 cents per month. If you have an Android, you can buy external drives that you can plug into your phone to transfer files.
There may also be times when your phone seems to be having storage problems that might be related to damage your phone may have sustained.
