How long does it take to repair an iPhone screen?

December 24, 2019

Even if you have a protective case for your phone, accidents do happen and screens get cracked or shattered all the time. In fact, about three-quarters of smartphone owners have damaged their phones by dropping them. Many of them have done it more than once. This number is likely to go up if Apple ever decides to switch to Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) screens in the future. They are known to be more fragile than their Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) cousins that Apple currently uses for their iPhones. In the event that Apple does decide to make the switch, finding replacement parts will also be difficult at first because there is no surplus of OLED screens available. For now though, let’s look at what it will take to replace an iPhone LCD screen if it breaks.

If you decide to have Apple replace your screen, you have two options: You can make an appointment to go to an Apple Store or you can ship it to Apple for repair. The first option requires you to be able to find an Apple store, make an appointment, then have the repair done. Once you have an appointment and arrive at the Apple Store, they say it generally takes about an hour to replace an iPhone screen. But if you factor in the time it takes to make the appointment and drive to an Apple Store, it may actually take you three to five hours to get the screen repaired, depending on when you can get an appointment. If you opt to ship you iPhone to Apple for repair, you can count on being without your phone for at least three to five business days (maybe even more), even when using Apple’s Express Replacement Service. In either case, a screen repair with AppleCare+ coverage will run about $30. Out of warranty repairs can cost anywhere from $129 to $329.

There’s no need to waste your valuable time or money. Simply bring your iPhone in and we’ll have it back to you in pristine condition within 60 minutes or less if there is no damage to the Touch ID module, which requires a slightly more complicated repair.
