How to attach files, photos, and videos to Notes on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

January 25, 2021

The Notes feature on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac may be one of the most underutilized apps in the Apple arsenal. It’s a great way to make checklists that can help you remember things you need to do or create a grocery list. You can even bullet the items in your list, so you can check off tasks as you accomplish them or as you buy each item while you shop.

You can also share your Notes list. This can be handy, for example, if your spouse wants to know what you want for your birthday and you can never come up with a good response. By creating a birthday wish list, you can keep a running tab of things you see throughout the year that you might like as a gift. Then, when it’s time for shopping, you can simply share the list with your spouse, family, friends, or even coworkers, so they know exactly what to get you or have a better idea of what your interests are.

Taking the technology a step further, you can also attach files, photos, or videos to each designated Notes screen to show specific examples of things on your list(s). You can even scan documents to save as files so you can access them from all of your Apple products when signed into your Apple account.

For iPhones and iPads:

– Click on the Notes app to open it. You can open a new “note” by clicking on the pen and paper icon in the lower right-hand corner of your screen. Once the note is open, you can add a title to it by typing it at the top of the note, then you can add photos and videos or scan a document by tapping on the camera icon in the middle of the screen. This will provide you with the opportunity to choose a photo or video from your photos app, or take a photo/video to add now.

– If the camera icon is not visible, click on the “+” in the circle to show a list of options.

For Mac:

– The Notes icon should already be in your docking area. It looks like a white piece of paper with a yellow header.

– To open a new Note, click on the pen and paper icon. Then you can either drag and drop photos or videos from your desktop into the space, or click on the icon that looks like stacked folders to pull from your stored photos.
