📱 Apple’s Sound Recognition Feature: A Game-Changer for Accessibility
In 2020, Apple introduced a breakthrough iPhone feature designed to help people with hearing disabilities — and it’s useful for everyone. Sound Recognition lets your iPhone or iPad detect key sounds like alarms, knocks, pets, or running water, and sends you instant notifications.

🔊 How to Turn On Sound Recognition
When available, you can enable Sound Recognition by:
Going to Settings → Accessibility
Scrolling to Sound Recognition under the Hearing section
Turning the toggle On
Once activated, your device will download a small file (about 5.5MB). Then, you can select which sounds to detect — such as:
General Sounds
Fire Alarm
Siren
Smoke Detector
Animal Sounds
Cat
Dog
Household Sounds
Doorbell
Door Knock
Appliance Alert
Running Water
Car Horn
People Sounds
Baby Crying
Shouting
After setup, your iPhone continuously listens for the selected sounds and notifies you instantly when one is detected.

Apple reminds users that Sound Recognition shouldn’t replace traditional safety devices. Don’t rely on it in emergencies, high-risk areas, or navigation situations.
⚙️ Add Sound Recognition to Control Center
For quick access, add Sound Recognition to your Control Center:
Go to Settings → Control Center
Under More Controls, tap the + next to Sound Recognition
Now, you can toggle the feature anytime with a simple swipe.
