There are a number of reasons why you might not be able to load the latest iOS update or patch. The most obvious being your Internet connectivity. Make sure you’re getting a good signal and that your Internet provider isn’t offline for one reason or another. If your signal is strong and the connection is good, try to do the update one more time. If it still doesn’t work, try updating by using a different network (if available).
If that doesn’t do the trick, here are a few other reasons you may not be able to update your phone and what you can do to resolve the various problems:
– Charge. If you’re trying to do an update without the charger plugged in, your phone may recognize that you don’t have enough juice available to complete the update. Try plugging your phone in, then attempt the update again.
– Storage. New system updates can eat up available space on your phone. If you don’t have enough space available, your phone will automatically make space by moving app data that can be downloaded again to cloud storage. If you still don’t have enough space, try physically removing apps you don’t use or move photos and videos to some sort of cloud-based storage, remove them from your phone, then try the update again.
– Verification. If you attempt and update and receive a “Unable to Check for Update” or “Unable to Verify Update” error message, go into your “Settings” and click on “General.” On the next screen, click on “iPhone Storage,” look for the update in the list of apps, tap on the update, the tap on “Delete Update.” Then go back into “Settings” > “General” > “Software Updates,” and try the update again.
If none of the options above work or you’re concerned about deleting anything from your phone without knowing if it is properly backed up somewhere else, bring your phone to any local Cell Phone Zone store and let us take a look for you. If service is necessary to get updates to load, we can take care of that for you quickly and cost-effectively to get your phone back up to speed and fully updated.
